This artwork by Jacopo Amigoni achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in October 2014. In the Old Master and British Paintings auction, the work Portrait of a gentleman, thought to be Francis, 2nd Earl of Godolphin (1678-1766), three-quarter-length, in robes of the Order of the Bath, a wand of office in his right hand sold for GBP 27,500.00 (€ 35,113.53) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 15,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jacopo Amigoni achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Bacchus And Ariadne; Venus And Adonis in February 2013 with an auction result of USD 2,098,500.00 (€ 1,604,480.46).
In der Auktion Old Master and British Paintings wurde die Arbeit Portrait of a gentleman, thought to be Francis, 2nd Earl of Godolphin (1678-1766), three-quarter-length, in robes of the Order of the Bath, a wand of office in his right hand für GBP 27.500,00 (€ 35.113,53) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 15.000,00.
