Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait of William, 1st Earl of Lonsdale, K.G., (1757-1844), seated three-quater-length in a green armchair by Jacob Thompson was auctioned at Christies in London in February 2009, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 2,500.00 (€ 2,818.67). Admittedly, works by Jacob Thompson have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Course Of True Love Never Did Run Smooth in November 2008 with an auction result of GBP 16,250.00 (€ 19,647.47).
