This artwork by J. Lewis achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in August 2003. In the British and Continental Pictures and Works on Paper auction, the work Vessels at low tide, a riverside town sold for GBP 376.00 (€ 539.84) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 200.00. Admittedly, works by J. Lewis have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Master Ackerman, in brown coat with black collar, brown breeches, grey waistcoat, white frilled shirt, an artist's portfolio under his left arm, a paintbrush in his left hand; seated in a landscape in December 2008 with an auction result of GBP 3,250.00 (€ 3,413.45).
