The work Modern Suku, Hairstyles Series, 1975 by J. D. 'Okhai Ojeikere was sold in the Modern and Contemporary African Art Online auction at Sothebys in London in March 2020. The auction ended at the price of GBP 5,000.00 (€ 5,646.02), which exactly corresponded to the upper end of the estimated price range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Admittedly, works by J. D. 'Okhai Ojeikere have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Hairstyles Series, 1968-1975 in May 2021 with an auction result of EUR 42,500.00.
Zuschlag beim oberen Schätzpreis
Die Arbeit Modern Suku, Hairstyles Series, 1975 von J. D. 'Okhai Ojeikere wurde im März 2020 in der Auktion Modern and Contemporary African Art Online bei Sothebys in London versteigert. Das dabei erzielte Ergebnis von GBP 5.000,00 (€ 5.646,02) entsprach exakt dem oberen Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 3.000,00 – 5.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von J. D. 'Okhai Ojeikere auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Hairstyles Series, 1968-1975 im Mai 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 42.500,00.
