ISODA KORYUSAI (1735-1790)
Edo period (1615-1868), circa 1770s
Two chuban tate-e prints: the first Uma (Horse) from the series Furyu junishi (Fashionable 12 Signs of the Zodiac), unsigned, 24.6cm x 18.4cm (9 11/16in x 7¼in); the second depicting a pair of pheasants standing beside a chrysanthemum shrub, signed Koryu zu, 26cm x 19.2cm (10¼in x 7 9/16in); both mounted on card. Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Unknown by Isoda Koryusai was sold in the From Harunobu to Hasui | Japanese Prints across the centuries auction at Bonhams in London in May this year. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 600.00 – 800.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 640.00 (€ 744.64) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Isoda Koryusai achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Courtesan promenading with attendants beneath cherry blossoms, c. 1770s in March 2009 with an auction result of USD 37,500.00 (€ 28,278.41).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Unknown von Isoda Koryusai wurde im Mai diesen Jahres in der Auktion From Harunobu to Hasui | Japanese Prints across the centuries bei Bonhams in London versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 600,00 – 800,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 640,00 (€ 744,64) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Isoda Koryusai erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Courtesan promenading with attendants beneath cherry blossoms, c. 1770s im März 2009 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 37.500,00 (€ 28.278,41).
