Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Two shunga woodblock prints by Isoda Koryusai was sold in the Fine Japanese Prints auction at Sothebys in London in December 2021. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 1,200.00 – 1,800.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 1,260.00 (€ 1,502.92) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Isoda Koryusai achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Courtesan promenading with attendants beneath cherry blossoms, c. 1770s in March 2009 with an auction result of USD 37,500.00 (€ 28,278.41).
