Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of a man, traditionally identified as Claude Louis Hector, duc de Villars (1653-1734) by Hyacinthe Rigaud was sold in the Old Master Paintings auction at Christies in New York in June 2015. The price achieved of USD 100,000.00 (€ 89,653.94) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 80,000.00 – 120,000.00. Admittedly, works by Hyacinthe Rigaud have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait Of Pierre-Vincent Bertin (Circa1654 - 1711) in July 2008 with an auction result of GBP 409,250.00 (€ 519,956.73).
