Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A seated gentleman reading a manuscript by Hubert-François Gravelot was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in March 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 800.00 – 1,200.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 756.00 (€ 643.79). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Hubert-François Gravelot achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Collection Of 79 Designs For Bookplates, Metalwork, Prints And Book Illustrations in July 2001 with an auction result of GBP 7,637.50 (€ 12,437.12).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit A seated gentleman reading a manuscript von Hubert-François Gravelot im März 2021 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 800,00 – 1.200,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 756,00 (€ 643,79) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Hubert-François Gravelot erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit A Collection Of 79 Designs For Bookplates, Metalwork, Prints And Book Illustrations im Juli 2001 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 7.637,50 (€ 12.437,12).
