Two letters with original envelopes, the first dated 2 June 1959, and the second 11 December 1960, both dedicated to Chang Fo-chuan (1908-1994); together with two inscribed business cards of Hu Shi, dated 3 December 1948, introducing Chang Fo-chuan to his three friends in Taipei, including Ding Xilin (1893-1974) and Zhuang Peike at Taiwan University.

Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Hu Shi achieved an unexpectedly high price at Bonhams in March this year. In the Chinese Works of Art and Paintings auction, the work Letters and Business Cards to Chang Fo-chuan, 1948-1960 sold for USD 25,500.00 (€ 23,454.75) - well above the upper estimate of USD 10,000.00. Admittedly, works by Hu Shi have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Poem In Running Script in September 2014 with an auction result of USD 203,000.00 (€ 160,753.88).
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Hu Shi erzielte im März diesen Jahres bei Bonhams einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Chinese Works of Art and Paintings wurde die Arbeit Letters and Business Cards to Chang Fo-chuan, 1948-1960 für USD 25.500,00 (€ 23.454,75) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 10.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Hu Shi auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Poem In Running Script im September 2014 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 203.000,00 (€ 160.753,88).
