Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Howard Finster achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in February last year. In the Outsider Art auction, the work Hell is No Place for Nice People (#2,643), 1983 sold for USD 22,500.00 (€ 20,046.33) - well above the upper estimate of USD 10,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Howard Finster; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Traveling Show: Presentation Piece Detailing the Life of Howard Finster, 1988 sold at auction in January 2019 with the realized price of USD 43,750.00 (€ 38,196.26).
