Commentaire : Notre tableau est à mettre en rapport avec un 'Paysage de rivière' conservé à la Staatsgalerie à Stuttgart : nous y retrouvons la même lumière méditerranéenne captée par l'artiste pendant son séjour en Italie et la même construction en diagonale constituée d'une rivière dominée par des architectures italiennes. Horatius de Hooch appartient à un groupe de paysagistes italianisants de la seconde génération influencés par Jan Both et Jan Asselyn.

The »bidding war« ended at EUR 7,395.00 23% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Horatius de Hooch - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A River Landscape With Ruins And Travelers, which sold at auction in April 2006 for USD 24,000.00 (€ 19,011.41).

Die Arbeit Cavaliers Et Promeneurs Le Long D'Une Rivière Dans La Campagne Romaine von Horatius de Hooch wurde im Juni 2011 in der Auktion Old Master & 19th Century Paintings, 19th Century Sculptures bei Artcurial in Paris versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von EUR 7.395,00 und damit 23% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Horatius de Hooch mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit A River Landscape With Ruins And Travelers beobachtet, die im April 2006 für USD 24.000,00 (€ 19.011,41) versteigert wurde.
