Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Archetypa studiaque Patris Georgio Hoefnaglii by Joris Hoefnagel was auctioned at Christies in New York in June 2013, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 12,000.00 – 18,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 11,875.00 (€ 9,127.59). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Joris Hoefnagel achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A village festival with elegantly dressed figures in procession, a river and tower beyond in December 2012 with an auction result of GBP 481,250.00 (€ 593,514.90).
