Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2002 Christies in London held the auction IMPORTANT PORTRAIT MINIATURES, GOLD BOXES & OBJECTS OF VERTU, which included the work James Graham, 1st Marquis of Montrose, facing right in gilt-studded armour and white lawn collar, black skull cap in his curling fair hair, small beard and moustache by Henry Pierce Bone. The price achieved of GBP 956.00 (€ 1,497.11) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 800.00 – 1,200.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Henry Pierce Bone achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work John Charles Spencer, Viscount Althorp, 3rd Earl Spencer (1782-1845), as Chancellor of the Exchequer, full length in Chancellor's robes over black mourning suit, standing beside a George II giltwood console table from Spencer House draped with green in July 2010 with an auction result of GBP 51,650.00 (€ 62,103.
Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit John Charles Spencer, Viscount Althorp, 3rd Earl Spencer (1782-1845), as Chancellor of the Exchequer, full length in Chancellor's robes over black mourning suit, standing beside a George II giltwood console table from Spencer House draped with green im J
