This artwork by Henry Pierce Bone achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in July 2010. In the The Spencer House Sale auction, the work Caroline Lavinia Lyttelton (1816-1902), seated, in pink dress with puffed sleeves, bows adorning the bodice, a black lace wrap draped over her right arm, wearing a gold necklace, dark hair dressed in ringlets; landscape, pillar and emerald-green curt sold for GBP 20,000.00 (€ 24,047.75) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 7,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Henry Pierce Bone - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work John Charles Spencer, Viscount Althorp, 3rd Earl Spencer (1782-1845), as Chancellor of the Exchequer, full length in Chancellor's robes over black mourning suit, standing beside a George II giltwood console table from Spencer House draped with green, which sold at auction in July 2010 for GBP 51,650.00 (€ 62,103.31).
