Auction result well in line with expectations
In March 2004 Christies in London held the auction British and Victorian including Scottish Paintings, which included the work In the valley of the Thames by Harry John Johnstone. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 3,346.00 (€ 5,008.66) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Harry John Johnstone - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Gathering clams, which sold at auction in September 2001 for GBP 6,462.50 (€ 10,434.18).
