Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Mary Manners-Sutton (Née Thoroton), In Yellow Dress With White Underdress, Her Light Brown Hair Curled And Upswept by Henry Bone was auctioned at Christies in London in November 2006, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 1,500.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at GBP 5,400.00 (€ 8,019.17). Admittedly, works by Henry Bone have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Admiral Viscount Nelson (1758-1805), facing left in rear-admiral's undress, blue coat with gold buttons and gold epaulettes, white trousers and waistcoat, frilled cravat and black stock, wearing the breast star of red sash of the Order of the Bath an in November 2000 with an auction result of GBP 22,325.00 (€ 36,489.33)
