Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Dutch at Sea by Hendrik Willem Mesdag was sold in the 19th Century European Paintings auction at Sothebys in London in December 2018. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 40,000.00 – 60,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 43,750.00 (€ 48,741.38) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Hendrik Willem Mesdag have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Marée Bas in April 2001 with an auction result of NLG 895,000.00 (€ 410,788.26).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Dutch at Sea von Hendrik Willem Mesdag wurde im Dezember 2018 in der Auktion 19th Century European Paintings bei Sothebys in London versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 40.000,00 – 60.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 43.750,00 (€ 48.741,38) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Hendrik Willem Mesdag auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Marée Bas im April 2001 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von NLG 895.000,00 (€ 410.788,26).
