Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In May 2016 Christies in Amsterdam held the auction Old Masters & 19th Century Art - (including Dutch Impressionism), which included the work Bomschuiten in the breakers, Scheveningen by Hendrik Willem Mesdag. Here, the upper estimate of EUR 35,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for EUR 37,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Hendrik Willem Mesdag achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Marée Bas in April 2001 with an auction result of NLG 895,000.00 (€ 410,788.26).
