Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Boats On The North Sea by Hendrik Willem Mesdag was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in January 2016. The price achieved of USD 43,750.00 (€ 40,389.59) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 30,000.00 – 50,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Hendrik Willem Mesdag achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Marée Bas in April 2001 with an auction result of NLG 895,000.00 (€ 410,788.26).
