Despite a disappointment, a good price for Hendrick Goltzius
When the work Jupiter And Antiope by Hendrick Goltzius was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in January 2010, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 8,000,000.00 – 12,000,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 6,802,500.00 (€ 4,904,470.08). Despite this disappointing result, Jupiter And Antiope is the most expensive artwork by Hendrick Goltzius that we have observed at auction so far.
