Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Three woodblock prints by Hideo Hagiwara was auctioned at Sothebys in London in May 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,260.00 (€ 1,466.04). Admittedly, works by Hideo Hagiwara have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Greek Mythology in March 2001 with an auction result of USD 5,875.00 (€ 6,680.69).
