Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Suspense by Guy Pène du Bois was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in September 2019, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 120,000.00 – 180,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 93,750.00 (€ 85,969.74). Admittedly, works by Guy Pène du Bois have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Crowd [Self-Portrait|AID239202] in November 2012 with an auction result of USD 602,500.00 (€ 463,105.30).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Suspense von Guy Pène du Bois im September 2019 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 120.000,00 – 180.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 93.750,00 (€ 85.969,74) den Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Guy Pène du Bois auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit The Crowd [Self-Portrait|AID239202] im November 2012 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 602.500,00 (€ 463.105,30).
