A top price for Gui Zhuang
When the work Five-Character Couplet In Running Script by Gui Zhuang was auctioned at China Guardian in Hong Kong in October 2015, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - HKD 120,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at HKD 413,000.00 (€ 48,249.41). This high result makes Five-Character Couplet In Running Script the most expensive artwork by Gui Zhuang that we have observed at auctions so far.
