In April 2006 Christies in London held the auction Old Master Pictures, which included the work An Italianate wooded landscape with young peasant women playing blind-man's-buff; and An Italianate river landscape with peasants making music and dancing by Giuseppe Zais. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 81,600.00 (€ 117,771.86), 63% above the upper estimate. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Giuseppe Zais; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot The Tiber, Rome, with the Castel Sant' Angelo and Saint Peter's in the background; and The Roman Forum sold at auction in May 2005 with the realized price of USD 240,000.00 (€ 194,347.72).
