Description
Three large, beautifully hand-coloured etchings from the series "Loggie di Rafaele nel Vaticano", published in Rome in 1772-77. The plates were engraved by Giovanni Ottaviani and Giovanni Volpato after Gaetano Savorelli, Luigi Teseo and Pietro Camporesi.
Doorways: Sheet sizes 90,4 by 48,2 cms and 90,8 by 48,5 cms respectively. Section, composed of 3 sheets: 45 by 174 cms. Watermark: Honig & Zoonen.
Purchased during a journey in Italy in 1908.

Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In December 2021 Bukowski in Stockholm held the auction Important Winter Sale, which included the work Two doorways and a vertical section from the Raphael Loggias in the Vatican. by Giovanni Ottaviani. Here, the upper estimate of SEK 20,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for SEK 22,000.00 (€ 2,145.96). Admittedly, works by Giovanni Ottaviani have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work 14 Bll.: Loggie di Raffaelle nel Vaticano: Pilasterverzierungen. in May 2008 with an auction result of EUR 10,000.00.
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Im Dezember 2021 führte Bukowski in Stockholm die Auktion Important Winter Sale durch, in der auch die Arbeit Two doorways and a vertical section from the Raphael Loggias in the Vatican. von Giovanni Ottaviani zur Versteigerung kam. Dabei wurde der obere Schätzpreis von SEK 20.000,00 leicht übertroffen – das Kunstwerk fand für SEK 22.000,00 (€ 2.145,96) einen neuen Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Giovanni Ottaviani auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit 14 Bll.: Loggie di Raffaelle nel Vaticano: Pilasterverzierungen. im Mai 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 10.000,00.
