Description
Seven large, beautifully hand-coloured etchings from the series "Loggie di Rafaele nel Vaticano", published in Rome in 1772-77. The plates were engraved by Giovanni Ottaviani and Giovanni Volpato after Gaetano Savorelli, Luigi Teseo and Pietro Camporesi.
Each plate composed of two sheets. Height up to 119,2 cms, width up to 47,5 cms. Small marginal repairs on verso of two plates. Watermark: Honig & Zoonen.
Purchased during a journey in Italy in 1908.

Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
The work Seven wall sections / pilasters in the Raphael Loggias in the Vatican. by Giovanni Ottaviani was sold in the Important Winter Sale auction at Bukowski in Stockholm in December 2021. Here, the upper estimate of SEK 30,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for SEK 34,000.00 (€ 3,316.49). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Giovanni Ottaviani - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work 14 Bll.: Loggie di Raffaelle nel Vaticano: Pilasterverzierungen., which sold at auction in May 2008 for EUR 10,000.00.

Die Arbeit Seven wall sections / pilasters in the Raphael Loggias in the Vatican. von Giovanni Ottaviani wurde im Dezember 2021 in der Auktion Important Winter Sale bei Bukowski in Stockholm versteigert. Dabei wurde der obere Schätzpreis von SEK 30.000,00 leicht übertroffen – das Kunstwerk fand für SEK 34.000,00 (€ 3.316,49) einen neuen Besitzer. Für andere Arbeiten von Giovanni Ottaviani mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit 14 Bll.: Loggie di Raffaelle nel Vaticano: Pilasterverzierungen. beobachtet, die im Mai 2008 für EUR 10.000,00 versteigert wurde.
