Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Venus and Cupid in a landscape by Giovanni di Nicocolò de Lutero was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in January last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 1,500,000.00 – 2,000,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 1,472,000.00 (€ 1,312,879.06). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Giovanni di Nicocolò de Lutero - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Plague at Pergamea; The Sicilian Games, which sold at auction in January 2021 for USD 6,238,800.00 (€ 5,141,161.93).
