Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Saint John The Baptist In The Wilderness by Giovanni Battista Caracciolo was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in December 2019, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 100,000.00 – 150,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 81,250.00 (€ 72,370.18). Admittedly, works by Giovanni Battista Caracciolo have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Calling Of Saint Matthew in January 2016 with an auction result of USD 538,000.00 (€ 496,676.51).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Saint John The Baptist In The Wilderness von Giovanni Battista Caracciolo im Dezember 2019 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 100.000,00 – 150.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 81.250,00 (€ 72.370,18) den Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Giovanni Battista Caracciolo auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit The Calling Of Saint Matthew im Januar 2016 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 538.000,00 (€ 496.676,51).
