Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Giovanni Antonio Canal achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in July last year. In the Master Works on Paper from Five Centuries auction, the work Capriccio: a courtyard with a double-arched portico surmounted by an elaborate pediment sold for GBP 403,200.00 (€ 481,492.41) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 200,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Giovanni Antonio Canal achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Bucintoro At The Molo, Venice, On Ascension Day in July 2005 with an auction result of GBP 11,432,000.00 (€ 16,582,008.08).
