etching, circa 1735-44, on laid paper, watermark Triple Crescent above Letter A and countermark AS surmounted by a Fleur-de-Lys (Bromberg 22 and 43), a fine, early and luminous impression of the first state (of two), with the faint outline of the shield on the house at left visible, printed circa 1760-70, at the Stamperia Pasquali, Venice, the full sheet, in very good condition

Auction result well in line with expectations
In January this year Christies in New York held the auction Old Master and 19th Century Prints, which included the work Mestre, from: Vedute altre prese da i luoghi altre ideate da Antonio Canal by Giovanni Antonio Canal. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 5,000.00 – 7,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 5,040.00 (€ 4,641.74) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Giovanni Antonio Canal achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Bucintoro At The Molo, Venice, On Ascension Day in July 2005 with an auction result of GBP 11,432,000.00 (€ 16,582,008.08).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Januar diesen Jahres führte Christies in New York die Auktion Old Master and 19th Century Prints durch, in der auch die Arbeit Mestre, from: Vedute altre prese da i luoghi altre ideate da Antonio Canal von Giovanni Antonio Canal zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 5.000,00 – 7.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 5.040,00 (€ 4.641,74) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Giovanni Antonio Canal erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Bucintoro At The Molo, Venice, On Ascension Day im Juli 2005 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 11.432.000,00 (€ 16.582.008,08).
