In April 2012 Sothebys in New York held the auction American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture, which included the work Chinoise by Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney. The result of USD 20,000.00 (€ 15,118.30) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work 'Wallflower, A Portrait of Barbara Whitney', which sold at auction in December 2002 for USD 38,240.00 (€ 36,471.15).
