Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Megalopolis 123, 2006 by George Widener was sold in the Courageous Spirits: Outsider and Vernacular Art auction at Christies in New York in January 2017. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 15,000.00 – 30,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 18,750.00 (€ 17,370.76) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by George Widener - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Megalopolis 181, 2007, which sold at auction in January 2019 for USD 40,000.00 (€ 34,922.30).

Die Arbeit Megalopolis 123, 2006 von George Widener wurde im Januar 2017 in der Auktion Courageous Spirits: Outsider and Vernacular Art bei Christies in New York versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 15.000,00 – 30.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 18.750,00 (€ 17.370,76) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen.
