Auction result well in line with expectations
In March 2001 Christies in London held the auction BRITISH AND VICTORIAN PAINTINGS, INCLUDING SCOTTISH PICTURES, which included the work The village of Braemar, Aberdeenshire by George Melvin Rennie. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 2,500.00 – 3,500.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 2,585.00 (€ 4,171.16) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by George Melvin Rennie - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Autumn, near Banchory Devenick, Low Deeside, which sold at auction in October 2000 for GBP 4,935.00 (€ 8,435.33).
