Auction result well in line with expectations
The work St Andrew's Church, Wells Street, London; and A cottage in a landscape before a lake (verso) by George Hyde Pownall was sold in the Victorian & British Impressionist Art auction at Christies in London in November 2011. The price achieved of GBP 1,250.00 (€ 1,459.25) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Hyde Pownall achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Piccadilly Circus; and The Empire, Leicester Square in December 2018 with an auction result of GBP 18,125.00 (€ 20,192.86).
