This price was achieved in the auction American Art Online at Christies in New York and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of USD 35,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by George Hughes; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Writing Thank You Notes sold at auction in November 2019 with the realized price of USD 200,000.00 (€ 181,504.67).
