Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work The Wayfarers by George Hitchcock was auctioned at Bonhams in Los Angeles in November this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 25,000.00 – 35,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 23,040.00 (€ 21,122.11). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Hitchcock achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Tulip Culture in May 2010 with an auction result of USD 1,762,500.00 (€ 1,424,933.30).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit The Wayfarers von George Hitchcock im November diesen Jahres bei Bonhams in Los Angeles versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 25.000,00 – 35.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 23.040,00 (€ 21.122,11) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von George Hitchcock erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Tulip Culture im Mai 2010 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 1.762.500,00 (€ 1.424.933,30).
