The »bidding war« ended at GBP 7,750.00 (€ 8,508.98), 55% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by George Engleheart have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A young lady, facing right in low-cut white dress, white shirt with high standing lace-bordered collar, lace cap and straw bonnet tied with white ribbons in her dark brown curling hair in December 2002 with an auction result of GBP 45,410.00 (€ 69,706.62).
