Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Fishing vessels off the coast in a stiff breeze by George Callow was auctioned at Christies in London in November 2008, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 800.00 – 1,200.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 625.00 (€ 755.67). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by George Callow - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Fisherfolk conversing at the end of the day, which sold at auction in May 2001 for GBP 1,762.50 (€ 2,954.87).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Fishing vessels off the coast in a stiff breeze von George Callow im November 2008 bei Christies in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 800,00 – 1.200,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 625,00 (€ 755,67) den Besitzer. Für andere Arbeiten von George Callow mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Fisherfolk conversing at the end of the day beobachtet, die im Mai 2001 für GBP 1.762,50 (€ 2.954,87) versteigert wurde.
