Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A rocky wooded river landscape with a waterfall and figures and cattle on the banks by George Barret was auctioned at Christies in London in May 2008, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 250,000.00 – 350,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 240,500.00 (€ 305,926.51). Other works by George Barret have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in December 2010 by the work A wooded river landscape with a man fishing in the foreground, a shepherd playing a flute beside a flock of sheep and a town beyond; and A wooded river landscape with fishermen in a boat, a ruined building beyond and figures crossing a bridge at GBP 481,250.00 (€ 558,248.55).
Andere Arbeiten von George Barret wurden auch schon teurer gehandelt; den höchsten Preis, den wir bisher bei Auktionen beobachten konnten, erzielte im Dezember 2010 die Arbeit A wooded river landscape with a man fishing in the foreground, a shepherd playing a flute beside a flock of sheep and a town beyond; and A wooded river landscape with fishermen in a boat, a ruined building beyond and figures crossing a bridge mit GBP 481.250,00 (€ 558.248,55).
