This artwork by Gaspar Butler achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in April 2016. In the Old Master and British Paintings auction, the work A View Of Naples From The Sea sold for GBP 56,250.00 (€ 71,904.23) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 30,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Gaspar Butler - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work View of Naples with the Riviera di Chiaia from the strada di Posillipo, with Vesuvius beyond, which sold at auction in July 2011 for GBP 229,250.00 (€ 263,098.67).
