Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of a gentleman, traditionally identified as Samuel Kilderbee, bust-length, in a black coat and white lace collar by Gainsborough Dupont was sold in the Important Old Master Paintings and Sculpture auction at Christies in New York in January 2009. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 12,000.00 – 18,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 12,500.00 (€ 9,762.57) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Gainsborough Dupont - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Wooded Landscape With A Peasant Girl Feeding A Dog, With A Goat, Cows And Sheep On A Distant Hillside, which sold at auction in May 2018 for USD 37,500.00 (€ 32,133.68).
