Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Gladioli, delphiniums, poppies, cornflowers, chrysanthemums, roses, narcissae and other summer blooms in a vase by Franz Xaver Wolf was sold in the 19th Century European Art including Russian Pictures auction at Christies in London in September 2005. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 4,200.00 (€ 6,163.81) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Franz Xaver Wolf - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Roses, poppies, sweet peas and other summer flowers in a vase on a marble ledge, which sold at auction in June 2000 for GBP 9,987.50 (€ 15,831.42).
