This artwork by Franz von Bayros achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in November 2005. In the 19th Century European Art auction, the work Ode To Dante (Recto); And A Knight Before A Vision of Christ (Verso) sold for GBP 10,800.00 (€ 15,866.56) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 5,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Franz von Bayros; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Ode to Dante (recto); and A knight before a vision of Christ (verso) sold at auction in July last year with the realized price of GBP 18,900.00 (€ 22,569.96).
