The least Russian-sounding artist of this period, Francisco Infante-Arana was born in the suburbs of Moscow to a Spanish father and Russian mother, and was a key figure in the movement founded by Lev Nusberg in 1962, 'Dvizhenie' ('Movement'). Engaged in a wide range of activities ranging from early, static works in painting and sculpture to kinetic constructions, performance and installations, the story of this group is a fascinating chapter in
Infante contributed to at least thirty unofficial exhibitions in the Soviet Union during the 1960s. He was interested in Land Art and became a talented photographer, but is best known to many collectors for his gorgeous tempera paintings of twisting shapes and bright geometric designs. From the outset, these appealed to scientists and engineers and were exhibited in professional 'alternative spaces' such as the Architects' Club in Leningrad (1965
The 'Spiral' series of 1965 is a classic example of his interest in mobile and dynamic systems, or 'kinetic' art, combined with his obsession with the idea of infinity. 'In my last years of studies', Infante recalled in his autobiography, 'I was struck by the strange anxiety, provoked by a deep personal realization, that the world is infinite. This agitation didn't go away and was so strong, that I was seeking to express it through my works'.

Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Spiral by Francisco Infante was sold in the Escape Artists: The Non-Conformists Online auction at Sothebys in New York in October 2018. It changed hands for a price of USD 18,750.00 (€ 16,546.06) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of USD 15,000.00 – 20,000.00. Admittedly, works by Francisco Infante have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Design For A Spiral 2 in March 2008 with an auction result of GBP 72,500.00 (€ 91,077.98).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Spiral von Francisco Infante wurde im Oktober 2018 in der Auktion Escape Artists: The Non-Conformists Online bei Sothebys in New York versteigert. Dabei wechselte sie für einen Preis von USD 18.750,00 (€ 16.546,06) den Besitzer und erzielte damit ein Ergebnis im oberen Bereich der Schätzpreisspanne von USD 15.000,00 – 20.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Francisco Infante auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Design For A Spiral 2 im März 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 72.500,00 (€ 91.077,98).
