This artwork by Francis Wheatley achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in February 2005. In the THE HOUSE SALE auction, the work Theseus and Hippolyta Find the Lovers, from A Midsummer Night's Dream sold for USD 26,400.00 (€ 19,888.50) - well above the upper estimate of USD 9,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Francis Wheatley achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Equestrian portrait of Sir Henry Pigot (1750-1840) in December 2000 with an auction result of USD 369,000.00 (€ 393,054.96).
