Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Francis Wheatley achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in July this year. In the Old Masters Part II auction, the work Portrait of a gentleman, full-length, in a crimson coat holding a walking cane and hat, seated in a landscape with ruins of a castle beyond sold for GBP 44,100.00 (€ 51,451.33) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 20,000.00. Admittedly, works by Francis Wheatley have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Equestrian portrait of Sir Henry Pigot (1750-1840) in December 2000 with an auction result of USD 369,000.00 (€ 393,054.96).
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Francis Wheatley erzielte im Juli diesen Jahres bei Christies einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Old Masters Part II wurde die Arbeit Portrait of a gentleman, full-length, in a crimson coat holding a walking cane and hat, seated in a landscape with ruins of a castle beyond für GBP 44.100,00 (€ 51.451,33) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 20.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Francis Wheatley auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Equestrian portrait of Sir Henry Pigot (1750-1840) im Dezember 2000 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 369.000,00 (€ 393.054,96).
