Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of Richard Ironmonger Troward (1751-1815), Small Full-Length, Seated At A Table In His Office, 22 Norfolk Street, The Strand, In Coat And Breeches With His Hands Resting On An Open Book, A View of The Thames Through A Window Beyond by Francis Wheatley was auctioned at Christies in London in June 2006. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 100,000.00 – 150,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 108,000.00 (€ 156,274.20) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Francis Wheatley - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Equestrian portrait of Sir Henry Pigot (1750-1840), which sold at auction in December 2000 for USD 369,000.00 (€ 393,054.96).

Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 100.000,00 – 150.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 108.000,00 (€ 156.274,20) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen.
