Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
The work Ships of the Red Squadron at anchor, one firing a salute as she prepares to leave the anchorage; and An English third-rate of the Red Squadron at anchor off the Low Countries, surrounded by coastal craft and with an Admiralty yacht firing a salute off her by Francis Swaine was sold in the Old Masters Day Sale auction at Christies in London in December 2018. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 18,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 18,750.00 (€ 20,889.16). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Francis Swaine - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work An English Squadron In St Aubin'S Bay, Jersey, which sold at auction in December 2006 for GBP 28,800.00 (€ 42,742.81).

Die Arbeit Ships of the Red Squadron at anchor, one firing a salute as she prepares to leave the anchorage; and An English third-rate of the Red Squadron at anchor off the Low Countries, surrounded by coastal craft and with an Admiralty yacht firing a salute off her von Francis Swaine wurde im Dezember 2018 in der Auktion Old Masters Day Sale bei Christies in London versteigert. Dabei wurde der obere Schätzpreis von GBP 18.000,00 leicht übertroffen – das Kunstwerk fand für GBP 18.750,00 (€ 20.889,16) einen neuen Besitzer. Für andere Arbeiten von Francis Swaine mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit An English Squadron In St Aubin'S Bay, Jersey beobachtet, die im Dezember 2006 für GBP 28.800,00 (€ 42.742,81) versteigert wurde.
