Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Venice, The Piazzetta San Marco With The Festival Of Giovedì Grasso by Francesco Guardi was auctioned at Christies in New York in October last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 500,000.00 – 700,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 428,400.00 (€ 431,246.23). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Francesco Guardi achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Venice, A View Of The Rialto Bridge, Looking North, From The Fondamenta Del Carbon in July 2011 with an auction result of GBP 26,697,250.00 (€ 30,639,088.35).
