Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Piazza San Marco, Venice, looking west; and The Piazza San Marco, Venice, looking east by Francesco Guardi was auctioned at Christies in December last year. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 300,000.00 – 500,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 315,000.00 (€ 355,604.32) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Francesco Guardi achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Venice, A View Of The Rialto Bridge, Looking North, From The Fondamenta Del Carbon in July 2011 with an auction result of GBP 26,697,250.00 (€ 30,639,088.35).
